Job Description
As a Weekend Driver’s Assistant, you will work alongside a lead driver to deliver goods such as household items, appliances, and furniture. You will assist with loading and unloading the vehicle, carrying items safely into customer premises, and providing friendly, professional service at all times.
You will use a company van, travel on planned AIT delivery routes, and play an important role in maintaining Steady Wheel Transport’s reputation for reliable, customer-focused service.
Key Responsibilities
Support the driver with loading, unloading, and delivery of goods across the North West and UK.
Assist with carrying and positioning furniture and appliances (e.g. washers, fridges, sofas).
Handle goods carefully to avoid damage and ensure safe delivery.
Contact customers 30–60 minutes prior to arrival using the approved company script.
Help complete proof of delivery and update the Driver App as required.
Perform basic vehicle checks and ensure the van remains tidy and safe throughout the day.
Represent the company professionally at all times, maintaining excellent customer service standards.
Follow all health and safety procedures, including manual handling guidelines.
Requirements
Aged 18+ with right to work in the UK.
Basic or Enhanced DBS check (completed prior to start).
Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 25kg.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends (Saturday & Sunday).
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Professional appearance and good customer service attitude.
Previous experience in delivery or furniture handling is an advantage but not essential.
Uniform and Equipment
All Driver’s Assistants are required to wear: Black trousers, Black polo shirt, Hi-Vis vest or jacket, Hard cap safety boots
You should also carry a screwdriver (manual or electric) or similar tool for basic furniture assembly tasks.
A company van will be provided, which you will share with the lead driver for all assigned deliveries.
